Let’s keep it short. If you wish to get a SSD for your boot or wish to switch to SSD fully, this is the one to get.
The RAPID mode makes the drive a little faster, but make sure you have a UPS if not data loss might occur.
Simply put this is the best SSD out there you can get in the SATA interface.
First I got the 840 Pro 😦
Then this 🙂
The black thing you see in the center is the SSD
Things to make sure you do once you get an SSD:
- Reduce the Recycle Bin size
- Move the Page File, Index to HDD
- Turn off VSS for Volume Shadow Copy
- Make sure it’s in AHCI and not IDE and is using an SATA 6Gb/s port
- In RAPID in enabled and/or you are using the Intel Integrated Graphics, make sure you have enough system memory
- Configure the boot order in the BIOS so that the SSD is first and enable all the UEIF options in the BIOS and also the Ultra Fast Boot mode too
- Depending upon the size you are going to get, just use it for your Boot drive if you are going with 128GB. You have no idea how fast this fills up
- Make sure that TRIM is enabled in the OS and hibernation is turned off
- Just the default Windows Defragment tool, it just sends TRIM commands, it won’t defragment your SSD. It’s just optimization so don’t worry.
- Install frequently used programs to the SSD and not so frequently used programs to the HDD
- Register the SSD and make sure its authentic
- Make sure you take a full system image backup to a HDD/NAS time to time
And on the OS side I’m running Windows 8.1 Pro with Windows Defender, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium & Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium.
