Nokia Lumia 830 – Thoughts

When you qi charge it, the metal around the phone heats up like the way Nexus heats up with TYLT VU. Also the top left part near the USB also heats up when you connect a powerful charger when the phone is low at 10%. The thing here is, since the battery is low the phone tries to charge as fast as possible and makes the metal to heat like in the qi. When you have enough power, there is no metal heat either way (qi or USB). When the battery is quite low, the frame heats as hell.

720’s display will heat up if you have the screen on for hours. There is nothing as such with the 830. Do note that both are IPS LCD with CBD polarizers. Nokia did something with the display here.

The oleophobic coating on the CGG3 is awesome and seems that it will last a very long time.

There is a subtle light bleed near the three capacitative keys, not noticeable generally unless you look at it in a particular angle in pitch dark with maximum brightness.

The three keys on the right screams excellence. So much so that I turned off double tap to wake, just to push myself into the habit of pressing the metal lock key to wake the phone up every time. Also the two-stage shutter key works brilliantly. All three has nice clicky feel to it.

The phone is a little top heavy. When you hold the phone with all your fingers below the camera module, in order to not to have fingerprints over the camera. The device tends to slip from the top. Like the top can fall top down any moment. The best-balanced device every is the 1520. Feels great!

Please check the disassembly video which shows why the phone is actually top heavy 😀

The black version I have here is not at a finger print magnet, the black 720 I have is certainly one.

Speakers are great! Love the Dolby EQ for speakers too. Dolby Digital Plus is also epic. 5.1 recordings are just brilliant and a treat to the ears.

USB and the headphone jacks are awesome and rigid. The headphone hole is actually the whole thickness of the phone, the phone is that thin. While it’s not light nor heavy, it feels great. It’s dense but certainly not heavy.

The black frame and the grey/black plastic for the RF looks great unlike the other models. The worst is the gold iPhone with the white bars moving around.

Battery life is normal. You will get one day of use (i.e, ~9 hours) no matter whatever you do. Screen on time easily crosses 6 hours for me. Maxed out at 7~8.

Vibration is perfect. Not too lite nor too moving. The haptic feedback is just about perfect for the capacitative keys. Anyway I have turned that off.

RF reception is awesome. Both Cellular & WiFi/NFC/BT.

The design is great too, a neat blend of 925 and the 930. Perhaps this might be the last batch of phones to launch with the Nokia logo on it, combined with the Microsoft logos in the internal & software side.

Was skeptic about Snap 400, but I really can’t feel it even when I pushed it hard. And finally 1GB of RAM. The internal 16GB is a sweet spot combined with the SD which I filled with a 32GB card. I have all the apps & content there, and I face no lag whatsoever. Denim is more of a bug fix & under the hood improvements than features.

No time at all to share camera samples, or unboxing videos and stuff. I have filmed them, but no time to upload and share, all thanks to my 1MBps down and 0.2MBps up ADSL connection from BSNL. I need FIBER BADLY! You can still check out my Flickr group for the 830 to see images of/by 830 from all around the world, here. There was none when I looked it up, so I created one. Please free to join the group 🙂 Making this a no Image post just to make you go see the Flickr group 😀 TBH it feels good when I see someone share their magic to something I made. Every admin will feel the same way afterall.

To sum it all up, if you’re into WP/Nokia and own anything other than the 1520, just get this 830 period!

I’m moving over to Vodafone from Airtel and here’s why

I’m moving over to Vodafone from Airtel and what can Airtel possibly learn from it

I was a loyal Nokia & Airtel user since my first mobile phone a Nokia 6030 in Silver White back in 2008. (Actually not Nokia, I still own 4 working and often used Nokia’s, so its just “I was a loyal Airtel user”) It was great, and its okay now too. Below is my problem and the reason for my switch to Vodafone. Do let me know in the comments that what do you feel about Vodafone worldwide and Airtel wherever it has business.  Continue reading “I’m moving over to Vodafone from Airtel and here’s why”

MKBHD should change the way how he represents himself, IMHO

Marques Brownlee should change

MKBHD: Quality Tech Videos | YouTuber | Geek | Consumer Electronics | Tech Head | Internet Personality!

MKBHD: Quality Android Videos | YouTuber | Geek | Consumer Electronics | Tech Head | Internet Personality!

You can see his about page in YouTube here, as on 25th April 2014 12:37 PM IST

Quality Tech Videos? Sure his videos are 4K quality, the way he expresses stuffs are good (presentation), information he provides is great, but… What does that ‘Tech‘ in “Quality Tech Videos” stands for? Tech as in the term stands for technology and it implies anything from Advanced Robotics full of AI to the dumb floor cleaning machine which doesn’t do anything other than spinning round & round.

By assuming that he means mobile and consumer electronics, from his videos. Sure he has talked about TV’s, Sound Systems etc in the past. So the consumer electronics part is covered. What about mobile? When someone says mobile tech, it has to be mobile tech. Mobile Tech includes everything mobile, and all its ecosystems. But as we all know, he is an Android centric user, heavily invested into the Google ecosystem.

Its fine, he can use what he thinks that works best for his needs. He himself has said numerous times that he’s into that part of the ecosystems out there. I’m not naming him as a Droid Fan Boy. NO! Just saying that he should advertise himself as an Android Reviewer or something name vise similar. Unless he talks about iOS, WP, BB, he is not a Mobile Tech Reviewer, he’s an Android Reviewer who talks about the Android as an OS/Eco System and devices running the OS.

Yup, he is a YouTuber, Geek, Tech Head and Internet Personality for sure. Man has 1,174,530 people subscribed. That’s total awesomeness, i’m a fan of his videos too. I love his style! But it just seems kinda awkward when he says he is something, which he actually is not basically.
